What
According to Allianz Partners’ Top 10 Thanksgiving Destination Index, less travelers will be flying over the Thanksgiving holiday. But of those who do travel abroad, they will likely be headed to Mexico. Cancun, San Jose del Cabo and Puerto Vallarta are the top three most-booked international destinations, followed by fellow beach destinations in Aruba, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Turks and Caicos and Cuba.
The most booked domestic destinations include Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Boston, Orlando, Phoenix, Fort Lauderdale, Atlanta and Las Vegas.
Why It Matters
With no testing or quarantine requirements and with reduced capacity at resorts, Mexico’s beach destinations are understandably desirable to Americans looking for an easy and warm destination for their Thanksgiving festivities. Also contributing to the popularity of international beach destinations this year is the fact that past holiday mainstays such as France and London are still off-limits to Americans.

While this is anything but a normal year, Americans comfortable with non-essential travel are discovering — and booking — what is available to them. As always, advisors should keep tabs on these destinations because nothing is guaranteed this year: For example, following a spike in COVID-19 cases, the state of Jalisco, Mexico, had to enact a two-week restriction on many activities.
