Tour operator Cox & Kings (C&K) — founded in 1758 and long heralded as one of the world’s oldest travel companies — will soon unveil a new portfolio of itineraries designed with U.S. and Australian travelers in mind.

This international expansion will be helmed by Jennifer Charlton, the newly appointed managing director of C&K, according to Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group (AKTG), which acquired the company in 2019. With this expansion, C&K itineraries will integrate with both Abercrombie & Kent’s global DMC network and A&K Philanthropy initiatives.

Our Analysis: Strong Partnership Paves the Way for Innovation

C&K’s expansion, with backing from the Abercrombie & Kent network, offers a true example of partnership and collaboration between two strong industry players in the tour operator space. Further, it shows the power of a legacy brand embracing evolution and innovation to adapt to a changing landscape.

Travel advisors with clients loyal to Abercrombie & Kent should take note — they’ll now have an additional roster of products to offer their clients. Additionally, Charlton’s decades of experience in the travel industry (in roles that prioritize sales, business development and global partnerships) will contribute to the brand's success.

Fast Facts: What Led to This Point

- Cox & Kings was originally founded as a military agent.

- Since C&K was acquired by AKTG, it received a refreshed website (last year).

- Charlton boasts ’s previous experience in travel includes a distinguished career in travel, having previously held leadership roles in prominent organizations such as KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, CWT, and Amex GBT. She was also named one of the top 40 women in global travel by WINT in 2019.

What They Are Saying: It’s a New Era for Cox & Kings

"I am honored to lead Cox & Kings into this new chapter of global expansion," Charlton said. "We are building upon our strong foundation and leveraging the extensive network and expertise of AKTG to offer unparalleled travel experiences. I am eager to introduce Cox & Kings to new markets and showcase our unique approach to travel, which seamlessly blends its rich heritage for the culturally curious traveler."

“Reimagining a brand as storied as Cox & Kings is both a privilege and a responsibility,” said Manfredi Lefebvre, executive chairman of AKTG. “As we’ve done with other iconic brands like Crystal, we are breathing new life into Cox & Kings, respecting its remarkable heritage while shaping it for a new generation of global travelers."

“Cox & Kings has a long and storied history of crafting extraordinary travel experiences, and we are pleased to be expanding our reach to a global audience," added Marett Taylor, chief sales officer at AKTG. "This announcement further cements our commitment to this historic brand and to ensuring that the authentic Cox & Kings experience, which has defined its centuries-long legacy, is upheld and enhanced. Our commitment to exceptional service and authentic experiences remains at the heart of everything we do.”
