In keeping with her tradition of visiting recently renovated properties, travel agent Joanna Semonious, of Lewis Travel and Cruises in Visalia, Calif., spent six nights in January at The Whaler on Kaanapali Beach on Maui. Thanks to a makeover, the Aston Hotels & Resorts-managed condominium resort sports a fresh new look, from the augmented porte cochere to the improved oceanfront pool deck. Here’s what Semonious said following her stay.
Before January, had you ever stayed at The Whaler before?
I never stayed there, but in 2006, I sent some clients there. Since I was on Maui at the same time, I took the opportunity to check out the grounds and the unit they stayed in. Now, the outside is quite different. The pool has been updated and the landscaping has had extensive upgrades. It all looks wonderful.
What are your favorite things about The Whaler?
I love the resort’s location, right on the best beach. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The full kitchens and large balconies are a plus. The resort has its own gate leading to and from Whalers Village, meaning easy access to shopping. I also enjoyed the little get-togethers that are hosted by the condo owners.
How does The Whaler rate among your clients who go to Maui?
It’s very popular. Our office has sent clients there approximately 15 times in the past four years. It’s particularly good for couples and families who are looking for a beachfront condo. Once they check in, they really don’t want to leave.
When clients return from The Whaler, what do they usually say about it?
They rave about the large size of the accommodations and how well-equipped they are. They love the wonderful views of Lanai and Molokai. For the best views, book a two-bedroom, two-bath oceanfront unit because these have balconies on two sides.
