It’s going to be a busy year for cruise travel in Greece as many lines, including local specialist Celestyal Cruises, prepare to restart sailings in the region.
The brand’s Celestyal Crystal will be first up on May 29, followed by newly announced Celestyal Olympia voyages beginning June 28.
“The expanded deployment coincides with the recent positive announcement from the U.S. [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] regarding international travel for Americans,” Celestyal Cruises said in a press release. “With more than seven new or reinstated direct flights between the U.S. and Athens from early June, getting to Greece is more accessible than ever.”
U.S. visitors will be permitted to arrive in Greece starting in mid-May if they are vaccinated against COVID-19, have proven immunity from a previous infection or provide negative PCR test results taken no more than 72 hours prior to departing. Celestyal will also require a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of embarkation.
Olympia will embark on weeklong Legendary Archipelago routes from June 28 to August 30, before picking up its regularly scheduled three- and four-night Iconic Aegean and Iconic Discovery itineraries. All cruises will leave from Celestyal’s dedicated Lavrion Port and Marina in Athens.
The Legendary Archipelago itinerary will feature Thessaloniki, Mykonos, Santorini, Agios Nikolaos (Crete) and Rhodes in Greece, along with Limassol in Cyprus.
Bookings open on April 9, 2021.
“We are greatly encouraged by the success of the vaccine rollout in the U.S., one of Celestyal’s largest and important source markets,” said Leslie Peden, chief commercial officer of Celestyal, in the release. “We are also thrilled with the positive progress of the safe and healthy reopening of Greece and cruising in May, building on last year’s successful partial deployment of cruises in Greece. It is not surprising that we are witnessing a strong increase in U.S. demand as a result.”
