Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) just dropped new details about its upcoming Norwegian Prima ship — from world-class entertainment to thrilling activities — ahead of its 2022 debut.

"We’re not just elevating the guest experience, we’re giving it an adrenaline rush and multisensory overload," said Harry Sommer, president and CEO of NCL, in a press release. "When we launched Norwegian Prima, we aimed at going beyond expectations, providing our guests with more wide-open spaces, elevated service, thoughtful design and a variety of unforgettable experiences, and this latest unveiling of our entertainment and onboard activities lineup is going to have the wow factor they’ve yearned for in a much-anticipated cruise vacation.”

Donna Summer Musical, Game Shows, Improv and More

Not only is "Summer: The Donna Summer Musical” coming to Prima from the production team behind Norwegian-favorite “Jersey Boys,” but the 75-minute show will be housed in the multipurpose Prima Theater and Nightclub. The dual space will let guests experience and dance to disco hits such as “Bad Girls,” “Last Dance” and “Hot Stuff” in a newly immersive and interactive way. The expansive triple-decker venue will convert from a performance stage to a dance floor and feature a moving LED screen that descends from the ceiling.

Several participatory game shows will also come to life on the ship as part of “Live on NCL,” where audiences can attempt to win grand prizes. Among the offerings will be “The Price is Right Live on NCL,” “Supermarket Sweep Live on NCL,” “Press Your Luck Live on NCL” and “Beat the Clock Live on NCL.”

Additionally, Improv at Sea will bring standup laughs thanks to a fun “Science of Comedy” theme, and Syd Norman’s Pour House will serve as a classic rock club covering numbers from Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin and more.

Prima will also reprise the line’s now signature go karts but on a whole new level — three, in fact. The new racetrack will be the line’s longest ever at more than a quarter mile and 22% larger than that on the Norwegian Encore. The course will consist of 14 turns around and through the ship’s funnel, and up to 15 racers at a time will reach speeds surpassing 30 miles per hour. A new Prima Speedway Bar will be located below the track.

Going even more extreme will be The Drop, a 10-story freefall dry slide that pushes more G-force than an accelerating F1 racecar; and The Rush, which will be a set of dueling dry slides.

Repeating onboard for indoor virtual gaming will be The Galaxy Pavilion, where an expanded list of 14 attractions will include four simulator experiences, two separate escape rooms and a Topgolf Swing Suite. (The latter will offer virtual golf courses and multiplayer games.)

Also new will be The Bull’s Eye, a video tracking version of darts and Tee Time, described by the line as “a supercharged version of minigolf, where guests can enjoy nine interactive holes set among a Vegas-style backdrop” and have the opportunity to win more prizes.

The Aqua Park, Vibe Beach Club and More

Water action will again extend to the Aqua Park and main pool, including a new Tidal Wave waterslide. Riders will lower into an inner tube and be able to catch surfing currents.

For relaxing, guests can enjoy two infinity hot tubs and a cascading water feature, as well as adults-only Vibe Beach Club, which features a dedicated bar and its own pair of infinity hot tubs.

Norwegian Prima will launch in the summer of 2022 and continue into the winter 2023 and 2024 season from Galveston, Texas, to the Western Caribbean with stops at Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; Roatan Island, Honduras; and Harvest Caye, NCL’s private island on Belize.
