Luxury cruise line Explora Journeys and shipbuilder Fincantieri have announced a new delivery date for Explora II. The vessel will now be handed over on Sept. 12, with its maiden voyage now scheduled for Sept. 16.

The decision to postpone the delivery was made after thorough reviews of the ship. According to the companies, additional time is required to complete the final finishes and ensure the vessel meets the brand's luxury standards.

Explora II's inaugural journey will be a seven-night Mediterranean cruise departing from Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy. The itinerary includes stops in Sorrento, the island of Lipari, Trapani and Siracusa in Sicily, Valletta in Malta and Tarragona, Spain.

The cruise line is offering flexible options for voyage durations, with trips ranging from seven to 21 nights. Departures will primarily be from easily accessible ports such as Civitavecchia and Barcelona.

Explora is currently in the process of contacting affected guests and their travel advisors to arrange alternative bookings. Options include rescheduling on Explora II or transferring to its sister ship, Explora I, which is also operating in the Mediterranean.

Following its launch, Explora II is set to sail the Western Mediterranean during the summer season. Its itinerary will feature several less-visited destinations, including Portofino (Italy), Porto Cervo (Sardinia, Italy), Saint-Tropez (France), Calvi (Corsica, France), Mahon (Menorca, Spain) and Monte Carlo (Monaco). The cruise line notes that these sailings will include overnight stays and extended port calls.
