Albatros Expeditions Welcomes New Ocean Albatros

Albatros Expeditions’ newest ship Ocean Albatros is ready to sail in the Arctic for summer 2023.

The ship was delivered to the brand on June 10 in Tromso, Norway.

“We have been onboard for the past few days,” said Soren Rasmussen, the founder and chairman of Albatros. “It looks like the vessel is absolutely perfect for these conditions — very stable and performs great."

As a sister ship to the preceding Ocean Victory, both vessels tout their ability to reduce their carbon footprint and altogether minimize their impact on the environment, especially in the polar destinations of the Arctic and Antarctica. With a focus on fuel efficiency, they can each limit their emissions. Albatros further features other state-of-the-art technology related to safety and navigation.

Clients will further appreciate private accommodations that promise to be spacious and stylishly furnished with Scandinavian decor for a blend of luxury and comfort, for rest and relaxation between adventurous outings.

Additional public spaces include a panoramic sauna, open-air whirlpools, scenic outer decks and hydraulic observation platforms for unique vistas cantilevered off the bow.

The ship features a total of 94 staterooms, 90% of which provide balconies. Some cabins are configured specifically for solo travelers. Guests can also enjoy a dedicated lecture room, a library, a boutique, multiple lounges, a spa, a gym, a pool and a bar. Dining options include Albatros Restaurant, Antarctic Panorama specialty restaurant and a BBQ deck.

An expert expedition team comprised of naturalists, photographers and wildlife experts will lead guest adventures that will highlight the Arctic region while emphasizing sustainable tourism.

Where Ocean Albatros Fits In

If Ocean Albatros looks familiar, it’s because the vessel technically has more than just Victory as a sister ship. There are actually six X-Bow-equipped vessels under charter from SunStone Maritime Group, and Victory splits its time between operations for Albatros Expeditions in Antarctica and American Queen Voyages in Alaska.

Rounding out the half dozen are also Greg Mortimer and Sylvia Earle under Aurora Expeditions, and Ocean Explorer and Ocean Odyssey from Vantage Deluxe World Travel. Unfortunately, the latter company has made headlines recently for filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with its two ships in the series currently laid up in Caen, France.
