Better yet, the following five routes give couples a budget-friendly way to appreciate Paris.
Basilique Du Sacre Coeur De Montmarte
Go hand in hand and make your way to the Sacre Coeur, one of the most beautiful monuments in Paris. Consecrated in 1919 and considered an iconic monument, the Roman-Byzantine-style basilica sits atop the Butte Montmarte and provides striking panoramas of the capital. The inside of the basilica features one of the largest mosaics in France.
Quartier de Montmartre
The quaint village of Quartier Montmartre inspired painters such as Picasso, Pissarro, Modigliani and Toulouse-Lautrec with its picturesque views of old Paris, and its strolling artists, cabarets and bistros continue to draw visitors here today. Be aware, though, that to get to the village you must choose between a walk up 222 steps, a steep hike or a trip on the funicular — a mode of transportation much like a cable car, created to transfer groups of people and items up very steep hillsides.
Musee de la vie Romantique
Couples will enjoy a stroll through this 1830 house, which was later converted into a museum. The first floor commemorates romantic novelist George Sand and the second floor houses Ary Scheffer’s paintings, along with some contemporary works. Twice a year, temporary exhibits are organized, in addition to readings, concerts and various activities for children. Guests can also walk through the property’s charming rose garden or a have a cup of tea in the seasonal tea room — open from March to October.
Rue des Martyrs
Starting at the Notre-Dame-de-Lorette church and ending near the Place des Abbesses, the Rue des Martyrs flirts with a mixture of bourgeois and bohemian style. Along the street are family-owned shops, an antique jewelry store and a variety of boutiques and restaurants.
Le mur des Je t'aime
Situated in a square at the Place des Abbesses in Montmarte, the Le mur des Je t’aime, or the “I Love You Wall,” displays the words “I love you” in 250 different languages. The artwork, conceived by Claire Kito and Frederic Baron, is composed of hundreds of lava-glazed squares. Small splashes of red throughout the fresco represent the pieces of a broken heart, but the wall as a whole is meant to inspire reconciliation and togetherness.
