When it opens this spring, SeaWorld San Diego’s new coaster, Emperor, will be the tallest, fastest and longest dive roller coaster in California. It will also be the state’s only floorless dive coaster. Named for the world’s largest penguin, it strives to mimic the emperor penguin’s impressive underwater diving ability.
Thrill-seeking clients will climb 153 feet and be suspended on a 45-degree angle before plunging down a 143-foot face-down vertical drop. The coaster will also take riders through an exciting series of twists, turns and inversions at speeds of up to 60 mph.
“There will be no other coaster experience like this in California,” said Marilyn Hannes, park president of SeaWorld San Diego. “Emperor will thrill visitors and also serve as an attraction that educates guests about the importance of animal conservation.”
As part of a partnership between SeaWorld and Penguins International, a portion of the proceeds from penguin merchandise will be donated to the organization to support its conservation, education and research efforts.
