5 Romantic Gazebos for Hawaii Weddings

Some Hawaii weddings are formal church affairs. Others are beach bashes. Couples looking for something in between might find just the right balance in a gazebo.

Around the islands, resorts recognize that the setting plays a key role in a wedding. With that in mind, many properties now offer arbors that bridge the gap between outdoors and indoors.

Surrounded by spectacular scenery, gazebos lend an air of casual elegance to weddings in Hawaii. Following are five romantic examples.

Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui
Tall cypress trees and tropical landscaping provide privacy for weddings at Kea Lani’s gazebo. Flanking a central water feature, the white-arched gazebo can host up to 100 guests seated or 120 standing. For an ethereal touch, the ceremony can take place on a plexiglass platform over the water. In the evening, floating candles add a little magic to the mood.

Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii Island
Embraced by green lawns and black lava, the Orchid’s seaside wedding gazebo sets a dreamy and dramatic stage. The resort can decorate it according to the couple’s whims, from a plumeria petal-scattered aisle to garlands of orchids hanging from each side of the gazebo. The white Victorian-style structure can also be set up for an intimate sunset dinner.

Four Seasons Resort Lanai-Lodge at Koele
In a manicured upcountry setting, the Lodge at Koele’s gazebo is flanked by towering pines and perched by the edge of a reflecting pond. A flower-lined walkway makes a stunning path for the bride as she walks to the altar. Couples can select their ceremony site anywhere along the pond to make the most of the natural light. It’s a flexible space for anywhere from two to 200 guests.

JW Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa, Oahu
Enhanced by tropical flowers and plants, Ihilani’s wedding gazebo overlooks the resort's saltwater ponds and holds up to 50 guests. Brides can choose from three paths for entering and exiting the ceremony. The hotel can tailor the venue with lighted torches, hanging paper lanterns, draped tulle and battery-operated candles that withstand the breeze.

Kahala Hotel and Resort, Oahu
Instead of a fixed gazebo, the Honolulu luxury hotel sets up an arbor in various locations, with customized flowers and linens. Couples most often choose the Diamond Head lawn with room for 40 chairs and Koko Head lawn which holds 100 chairs. Both spots provide ocean panoramas. Rainbows occasionally make an appearance at this special spot for Hawaii weddings.
