In response to a growing demand for transpacific and inter-island Hawaii flights, several airlines are launching or expanding services to facilitate travel between Hawaii and the western U.S. and Canada. Following is a snapshot of the latest airlift news from local and national carriers.
Allegiant Airlines
Allegiant, headquartered in Las Vegas, will soon start offering nonstop service between Los Angeles and Honolulu. The carrier’s twice-weekly LAX-HNL flights will begin on Oct. 30. Clients can also book Allegiant’s value-added vacation packages that include Hawaii accommodations, rental cars and activities.

Hawaiian Airlines
Beginning on Jan. 5, Hawaiian Airlines will increase service between Oakland and Honolulu from four times per week to daily. In addition, from June 14 – Aug. 15 of next year, Hawaiian will start annual summer service between Oakland and Lihue, Kauai three times per week, and Oakland and Kona on Hawaii Island four times per week.

Island Air
Honolulu-based Island Air recently increased daily service between Honolulu and Kahului, Maui. To better serve clients who are traveling between the islands, the carrier has completed the conversion of its fleet from the 37-passenger Dash 8 aircraft to the ATR 72 aircraft, a twin-engine turboprop seating 64 passengers.

Mokulele Airlines
Mokulele Airlines is the first Hawaii inter-island carrier to offer flights between Kona on Hawaii Island and the northwest Maui destination of Kapalua. Available since July 19 of this year, the new service runs four times daily. On Sept. 21, the airline launched two daily flights between Waimea on Hawaii Island and Kahului, Maui.

WestJet
WestJet Airlines is boosting its number of flights between Vancouver, B.C. and Hawaii. On Dec. 12, service to Kona will increase from four times weekly to daily, while flights to Kauai will go up from three times weekly to daily starting Dec. 14. WestJet also offers twice-daily flights from Vancouver to Honolulu and Maui.
