BIG ISLANDOct. 19: Ironman Triathlon World Championship. Drawing competitors from around the world, this internationally televised 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run starts and ends in Kailua-Kona. Call 808-326-2131. Oct. 27: Taste of Hilo. Clients can sample the talents of Big Island chefs, restaurateurs, bakers and beverage makers. Hilo Hongwanji. Call 808-934-0177. Oct. 30 to Nov 3: Big Island Festival. The island’s diversity is showcased through cultural, sports, agricultural, spa and healing events, with evening food and wine functions at various resorts on the Kohala Coast. Call 866-424-FEST. KAUAIOct. 4-13: Aloha Festivals. Throughout the island, Kauai presents Hawaiian cultural shows, activities and programs for all ages. Most events are free with a festival ribbon. Call 800-852-7690. Oct. 5-6: Coconut Festival. Now in its sixth year, this event highlights the cultural, social and historic importance of the coconut with games, crafts and contests. Kapaa Beach Park. LANAIOct. 12-13: Lanai Visiting Artist Program. Josiah Citrin, chef/owner of Melisse in Los Angeles, presents a free cooking demonstration and concocts a special menu for the hotel’s dining room. Locals and visitors flock to the fair’s parade, rides, games, exhibits, arts and crafts, entertainment, a floral show, a healthy baby contest, a livestock tent and a food court. Wailuku War Memorial Complex. Call 808-270-7626. Oct. 11-26: Aloha Festivals. Maui’s version of the annual statewide celebration occurs in various venues around the island. Call 800-852-7690. Oct. 31: Halloween in Lahaina. Front Street turns into a pedestrian strip until 2 a.m., featuring a haunted house, a costume contest, a parade, food, crafts, activities and live music. Call 888-310-1117. MOLOKAIOct. 1-5: Aloha Festivals. The rustic beauty of Molokai is enhanced with such Aloha Festivals events as a parade, a hoolaulea (an outdoor party), a poke (marinated raw seafood) contest, a ukulele competition, a song contest and daily Hawaiian entertainment.
