South Pacific Show Continues To Shake Up Kauai

May 04, 2005

The South Pacific dinner theater, which has been playing to sold-out crowds at the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort, has extended its run at the property through January 2006. The Broadway musical that inspired the hit movie filmed on Kauai, opened at the resort in January 2004.

The colorful show includes such classic songs as “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair,” “Bali Hai,” “I’m in Love With a Wonderful Guy” and “There is Nothin’ Like a Dame.” The theater production is produced by the Hawaii Association of Performing Arts (HAPA). It is directed by Gabriel Oberman and Brenda Turville, with musical direction by Alan Van Zee. The show includes all local talent, with over 20 cast members.

According to producer Alain Dussaud, “South Pacific has become symbolic to Kauai and needed to return to the island. There really are not a whole lot of family entertainment choices at night. This combination of dinner and theatre, and Radisson’s central location, has attracted tourists and kamaaina from all over the island.”

The three-hour dinner show takes place every Monday and Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in the resort’s Jasmine Ballroom. Priced at $68 for adults and $50 for children 12 and under, the evening includes a dinner buffet, one cocktail per adult and access to a no-host bar. The show is commissionable to travel agents.

“Like theater elsewhere as in New York, this is cultural entertainment,” said Tom Bartlett, director of sales. “People of all ages seem to enjoy it. I hadn't seen it since Kailua High School 40 years ago when it was done as a senior play. I enjoyed it then and enjoy it now. It’s a very good show!”

Special Radisson Rates

Special packages at the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort include “Kauai On Wheels,” covering deluxe accommodations, compact rental car use and daily buffet breakfast for two in the Naupaka Terrace from $229 per night.

The hotel’s “Bed and Breakfast in Paradise” includes deluxe accommodations and daily Naupaka Terrace buffet breakfast for two. Through June 30, nightly rates are from $199. For July 1, rates are $10 additional per category.

Valid through December 20, Radisson rates are based on double occupancy. All packages include complimentary Manager’s Cocktail Party nightly from 5-6 p.m., nightly torchlighting ceremony with Polynesian dance show, complimentary airport shuttle service and complimentary tennis on the hotel’s four courts.

Centrally located on Kauai’s eastern shore, the 25-acre Radisson Kauai Beach Resort features 340 rooms, seven suites, complete meeting and banquet facilities, three restaurants, a boutique spa and fitness center, tennis courts and a “super pool” complex.
