What's New in Maui Nui

At a recent Maui Visitors Bureau presentation, island representatives served up some exciting scoops as they discussed what’s new in Maui Nui, comprised of the islands of Maui, Molokai and Lanai.

Here’s a snapshot of their news highlights, all of which hold plenty of appeal for visitors.

Andaz Maui on the Horizon
Slated to debut in May 2013, the new Andaz Maui at Wailea — formerly a Renaissance property — will offer 290 rooms and 35 suites, infinity pools, two prominent restaurants, a full-service spa, a water activity center and meeting space.

Four Seasons Couples Month
New for 2012, Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea has deemed September as Couples Month, with value season rates and complimentary activities like cooking and cocktail classes, trunk shows and wellness events.

Honua Kai Artists

Through 2012, the luxurious condominium resort Honua Kai is presenting Artists of Honua, a monthly program spotlighting the artwork of Maui’s leading fine artists, some of whom present hands-on workshops for guests.

Hyatt Maui Menus

As part of a brand-wide initiative, Hyatt Regency Maui has launched Food, Thoughtfully Sourced, Carefully Served. It’s injecting its restaurants with healthy locally-sourced food and beverages, right down to the children’s menus.

Kaanapali Fresh
Kaanapali Beach Resort is readying for the first annual Kaanapali Fresh, an impressive three-day special event touting the destination’s unique cuisine, activities, history, culture and arts. Watch for it from Aug. 31-Sept. 3.

Lanai Ownership
Since Oracle Corp. chief Larry Ellison bought this 141-square-mile island in June, he has kept mum about his plans, but local reports indicate that he hopes to expand the airport’s runway for larger jets, making Lanai easier to reach.

Molokai Arts Center
Local artists recently joined forces to create a hub of pottery and jewelry making classes, poetry readings and other creative endeavors that visitors are welcome to attend. Look for it at the Coffees of Hawaii Plantation in Kualapuu.

Wailea Wine and Food Festival
Another first-time festival, this Dec. 6-9 celebration promises to showcase the talents of Wailea Resort chefs and famed master sommeliers during tastings, intimate winemaker dinners, oceanfront soirees and wine encounters.
