Located at the very edge of pristine Kahuwai Bay on the Kohala
Coast of Hawaii’s Big Island, the iconic Kona Village Resort
announces an “Ocean Promotion” theme for 2007. Each month, the
resort will highlight a different aspect of coastal and marine
life. This closer look at the elements of the ocean will extend to
everything from water sports and activities to featured fare at
resort dining rooms.
Beginning in January, executive chef Mark Tsuchiyama will present
Big Eye Ahi (tuna) specialties as the star of the menu at Hale
Samoa, the resort’s fine dining establishment.
For the month of February, island-fresh swordfish will make its
annual debut in all kinds of sumptuous Hale Samoa dishes, and in
March the delicate, delicious flavor of mahi mahi, which can be
prepared in an abundance of ways, will headline as fish of the
month.
Other monthly themes throughout 2007, in keeping with the Ocean
Promotion, will include island fish such as Ono, Moi, Yellowfin
Ahi, Kampachi, Kona Lobster and Abalone, Halibut, Opakapaka and
Ehu.
January will see Kona Village Ocean Adventures offering excursions
for viewings of enormous Humpback Whales wintering in warm Hawaiian
waters.
In February, the resort’s new Ribcraft (Rigid Inflatable Boat)
will headline the list of excursions, providing guests with quick
access to more than 20 nearby dive sites, offshore snorkeling
excursions and, once again, whale watching while the winter months
last.
Outrigger Canoe Paddling will highlight the activity list at Kona
Village Ocean Adventures in March. This year, Kona Village Ocean
Adventures will also continue to offer guided kayak adventures,
double-hull canoe rides, scooter snorkel and dive adventures,
windsurfing, SCUBA diving, sailing lessons, and Keiki (children)
surf lessons.
Kona Village Resort, located on 82 private acres that were once
the site of an ancient Hawaiian fishing village, is an ideal
location for guests interested in experiencing the bounty of the
ocean. Its 22 oceanfront acres are home to 125 individual
thatched-roof hale (ha-lay, or bungalows), from which guests can
soak in the treasures of the sun and surf firsthand.
