Bahia Hotel & Beach Club Gets a Makeover

Jan 04, 2012

Los Cabos’ Bahia Hotel & Beach Club recently underwent a significant face lift. Taking its cues from design-centric boutique hotels, the Bahia has created a budget-friendly, urban-chic property where guests can overnight, dine and drink in downtown Cabo San Lucas.

Keeping with the property’s original Mexican-inspired, white-washed plaster motifs, 20 out of its 81 guestrooms have been renovated. The deluxe guestrooms now feature modern dark wood furniture, goose feather comforters, large plasma televisions, cocktail bars and iPod docking stations.

The hotel’s lobby, restaurant and common areas have also been renovated; the new decor is by far most striking at night. A myriad of punched metal Moroccan-style lamps are hung throughout the property casting a soft yellow glow and shadows, making the ambience nothing if not romantic.

Even if you are not a hotel guest, the Bahia’s new restaurant, Bar Esquina, is a must-visit. The gourmet gastro pub features locally cultivated cuisine with a Mediterranean and Mexican twist. The restaurant boasts a mesquite grill and a full bar with an extensive wine list. Executive chef Laurent Amaury Saussy is a transplant to Los Cabos. He had a unique childhood split between Puerto Rico and Tennessee. Spending time in two radically different cultures gave him a taste for both Latin and American cuisine. Saussy has worked in such notable Los Angeles eateries as Josie Restaurant and Jiraffe as well as New York’s Bouley and the famous Blue Hill.

While the Bahia is not located on the water, a quick walk will take guests to the hotel’s Beach Club & Activity Center on the shores of Medano Beach, the only swimmable beach in Cabo San Lucas.

In the heart of the property is the swimming pool surrounded by personal recliners, daybeds, a swim-up pool bar and a hot tub with daytime cocktail and food service. Free wireless Internet access is available throughout most areas of the hotel.

For guests who would like to incorporate spa services, the hotel offers in-room spa services upon request by an outside qualified vendor. The Bahia also has an agreement with neighbor hotel Cabo Villas Beach Resort for 20 percent off all spa treatments and free use of the gym.
