What’s New in Cancun for 2026 and Beyond

As the largest single destination on Mexico’s popular Caribbean coast, Cancun is a hot spot for tourism and hospitality development. From airport expansion to new and refreshed hotel offerings, the city is preparing for visitors with amplified offerings — and providing travel advisors with new ways to entice diverse demographic groups with varied products at multiple price points.

Here’s a look at what’s new and upcoming in and around the Cancun area.

Growth at the Airport — and Nearby

As one of Mexico’s busiest airports, Cancun International Airport processes millions of passengers every year, according to Asur, the company that operates it. To better handle growing numbers, the facility is responding by adding more than a dozen new gates at its newest terminal, with tentative plans to complete construction before the end of this year. Increased airport capacity complements greater connectivity around the region; the Tren Maya has a station nearby and links Cancun to various destinations around the peninsula.

Also close to the airport is the 156-room Hyatt Place Cancun Airport, which debuted in November 2025 with a swimming pool, a fitness center, an event space and free airport shuttle service — a viable option for in-transit passengers looking for proximity to the airport and the train.

It’s not surprising that the popular all-inclusive concept is well-represented in the latest wave of hotel openings in Cancun and the nearby Riviera Cancun and Costa Mujeres.

In Cancun’s hotel zone, the 705-room Hotel Riu Ventura opened in December 2025 as Riu’s sixth hotel in Cancun. The property is positioned to serve diverse market segments, with a first for the company in Mexico: an adults-only area with a pool and Sky Bar on the sixth floor. The property also caters to the family segment with a kids club, and guests can also choose from upscale accommodation categories that include 36 rooms with private swim-up pools.

Another significant addition to the local hotel scene is Secrets Mirabel Cancun Resort & Spa, which opened in November 2025 as an adults-only, all-inclusive resort. Set nearby the popular Playa Delfines, this 487-room addition to Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection offers a Preferred Club level of accommodation with swim-out and plunge-pool suites. The hotel is also touting its extensive sustainability efforts, which include reducing single-use plastic, using locally sourced ingredients at its eight restaurants and featuring decor made by local artisans with handwoven natural fibers.

Also within the Hyatt portfolio is Breathless Cancun Soul Resort & Spa, which isn’t new but is aiming to attract the attention of travel advisors with a special offer this year: Those who book 10 or more rooms for Sunday through Thursday stays between May and October 2026 are eligible for a 12% commission structure, rather than the standard 10%. This could be especially enticing for advisors booking celebrations, meetings and other types of group travel.

Just south of Cancun, near Puerto Morelos, Iberostar Selection Riviera Cancun opened in November 2025. The 444-suite resort offers swim-up suites, oceanfront suites and rooms designed specifically for families — some with separate living rooms with sofa beds, and others with separate bedrooms.

Costa Mujeres, meanwhile, continues its fast-paced growth with the December 2025 debut of Ocean Allure Costa Mujeres, which is billed as the flagship property for Ocean Signature Resorts’ new adults-only brand. With 599 suites, eight restaurants, eight bars, a wave pool, a lazy river, a spa, a bowling alley and the Privilege category, the property is positioned as an upscale option with lots of amenities.

Also new in Costa Mujeres is the all-inclusive Majestic Mirage Costa Mujeres, which opened in late 2025 with family-friendly areas including a waterpark and theater, as well as adults-only features such as private pools and beach areas, as well as certain restaurants and bars.

Family travelers can also find new activity options at Club Med Cancun, which continues to refresh its offerings with the recently opened Sports & Wellness Island; new activities including archery, bocce ball and pickleball; and up to 20 hours of yoga per week included in the room rate. The property has also debuted a new play facility and waterpark, as well as a renovated kids club and Baby Club Med for youngsters 4 to 23 months old.

Future Luxury

The luxury hotel segment is in growth mode throughout the region. In addition to Park Hyatt Cancun, which is slated to open later this year, Grand Hyatt Cancun Beach Resort is already accepting reservations for stays beginning Sept. 8, 2026. The Grand Hyatt property will feature a spa, 14 dining venues, nine swimming pools and more than 30,000 square feet of event space.

Marriott’s pipeline in Costa Mujeres is also surging forward. The St. Regis Costa Mujeres Resort, Cancun is expected to open in the second quarter of 2026 with 163 rooms, three food and beverage venues and multiple pools, while the 283-room JW Marriott All-Inclusive Costa Mujeres is also slated for a 2026 opening, with six dining venues and multiple pools. The 300-room W All-Inclusive Costa Mujeres, meanwhile, is planned for 2026, as well; it will be linked to JW Marriott Costa Mujeres by The Village, a 70,000-square-foot entertainment complex.

Further in the future, The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun, Punta Nizuc is scheduled to debut in 2027 with 131 rooms.
