There’s a first time for everything, and riding a bicycle on a tightrope across a ravine was certainly a first for me this year. It was also the first time I had ever encountered that kind of experience at an all-inclusive resort, which is a perfect example of how Secrets Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort stands out from the competition with its latest additions.
Part of a dual-branded Bahia Mita complex in the state of Nayarit, the adults-only Secrets Bahia Mita sits adjacent to the family-friendly Dreams Bahia Mita Surf & Spa Resort. Located less than an hour’s drive from Puerto Vallarta International Airport, this member of Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection is an attractive option that offers many amenities and several new experiences, as I discovered during my recent visit.
Modern, Yet Inviting
From the moment I arrived, I was taken with the resort’s architecture. Designed by Sordo Madaleno, a renowned Mexican architectural firm, the Bahia Mita complex’s sophisticated profile is particularly eye-catching against the lush natural backdrop, with open plazas, multiple swimming pools, stylish rooftop areas and restaurants that are ideal for enjoying the beautiful views.
I appreciated the streamlined check-in process as part of my Preferred Club accommodation category, which included a variety of perks, including access to a lounge and a private rooftop with infinity pool, as well as other amenities.

I’ve long been a fan of Secrets’ sophisticated decor and features, and I wasn’t disappointed here; the comfy seating area, thoughtful lighting, pillow menu, slippers and bathrobes further enhanced the upscale vibe.
Secrets Bahia Mita guests can also dine at restaurants on the Dreams side, which further increases the culinary options (guests at Dreams, however, don’t have reciprocal access, which preserves the adults-only ambience at Secrets).
The multiple rooftop areas were among my personal favorite features of Secrets Bahia Mita. I especially liked relaxing on a Bali bed at Sky Bar, gazing out at the Pacific; these beds are also available on the lovely beach.

A major visual centerpiece is the giant circular structure that serves partially as the setting for the sumptuous spa. The curving walls and walkways are truly eye-catching by day, and by night, they take on a dramatically different look, as I learned on my first night. I watched whales glide across the circular surface; it’s part of a video mapping program — and one of the most unforgettable nighttime presentations I’ve witnessed at a resort.
What’s New at the Resort
Several new features debuted at Secrets Bahia Mita resort last fall. Four new rooftop cabanas — two at the adults-only Secrets and two at Dreams — create an even more elevated lounge experience, complete with private pools and Jacuzzis.
Complementing the rooftop relaxation are the thrills at Bahia Mita Adventure Park, which is located on property and is accessible for an extra cost. Billed as the first-ever on-site zipline facility in the region and the first in Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection, it’s a unique selling point for the resort — and a lot of fun.

I had done ziplines before, so I was most excited about experiencing two other activities for the first time. The hanging bridges — a series of elevated, swinging suspension foot bridges — appear deceptively simple, but once I stepped onto the first one, I realized that this would take some time; balance and concentration are necessary for successful navigation.
Also new is the zip bike experience — and that was actually easier, in my opinion, but no less exciting. It involved mounting a traditional 10-speed bicycle that has been repurposed to fit on a tightrope-style cable that traverses a lush ravine. (Safety harnesses keep participants secure for all the activities.)
Spa, Dining and Other Activities
The expansive Secrets Spa is a textbook example of memorable spa design. Built into the dramatic, circular architectural centerpiece, the facility is graced with gently curving corridors, soothingly dark tones, attractive treatment areas and falling water that serves as a backdrop for the extensive hydrotherapy circuit (a thoughtful detail: after the hydrotherapy experience, the staff even dried my bathing suit).
Dining was another highlight of my stay. At Bluewater Grill Beach Club, I sipped a glass of Chilean wine while immersed in a relaxing ambience of glowing blue table lights and large screens showing jellyfish drifting through blue water. Italian venue Portofino delivered one of my favorite meals of the trip, thanks to its delicious fresh breads and mouthwatering tortellini, while Bordeaux impressed with its high ceilings, warm wood details and sophisticated French cuisine. World Cafe, meanwhile, was a reliable go-to for a sizable breakfast buffet. On multiple mornings, it provided the nourishment I needed before another day of relaxation, indulgence and exploration.
