Driving along Oahu’s coastline in a rental car on my way to The Kahala Hotel & Resort, I passed through Waikiki and tapped on my brakes more than a few times to avoid bumping into children, teenagers with surfboards and adults loaded down with picnics, sand toys, towels and infants.
I kept driving, and not 10 minutes later I had left behind the chaos that makes Waikiki one of the hottest beach destinations in the world. But as I handed my keys to the smiling valet, I immediately noticed that The Kahala offers a different appeal.
Located in a residential area on a quiet and pristine white-sand beach, the hotel is one of the locals’ — and visitors’ — favorite Oahu retreats. In addition to tranquility and a refreshingly open architecture, the 343-room resort also boasts five restaurants, including the award-winning Hoku’s, a spa and a lagoon that is home to six Atlantic bottlenose dolphins.
Fresh for the spring, The Kahala has recently completed the first phase of guestroom makeovers. New furnishings, windows, curtains, carpets, wood floors, amenities and Hawaiian-themed artwork have created the resort’s new “Kahala chic” design.
“We’re very excited to share our new look,” said John Blanco, managing director of The Kahala. “We’re certain guests will be pleased.”
The next renovations will be the resort’s Dolphin Lagoon wing, and plans are also being finalized for the public areas, including a combined spa and CHI fitness center and upgrades to the lobby and Plumeria Beach House restaurant to be completed by 2009. And, despite the current improvements, The Kahala has not increased their published rates for 2008, a value clients can take advantage of this spring.
Other ways clients can benefit from The Kahala’s renovations are through a variety of value-packed promotions.
The Legendary Days Promotion is good for stays through June 30 and offers perks for guests. When clients book three nights or more in a courtyard category room or higher they will receive a daily breakfast buffet for two, per room, at the Plumeria Beach House. Clients booking a two-bedroom suite will receive a daily breakfast buffet for four.
Guests will also get a fifth night free when booking a minimum of five nights in a Mountain category room or higher and will also receive a daily breakfast buffet for two (those booking a two-bedroom suite will receive breakfast for four). Guests booking any suite will also receive The Kahala Suite Amenity Program, which offers VIP services such as roundtrip limousine airport transfers, VIP greeting upon arrival with special lei, personalized stationary packet in suite, nightly VIP turndown, preferential oceanfront seating at Plumeria Beach House and Hoku’s, unpacking/
packing services and preferential times at the Spa Suites.
The Blissful Beginnings Package, designed for couples, includes guestroom or suite accommodations with a champagne welcome, daily buffet breakfast for the couple at Plumeria Beach House and two lomi lomi massage treatments at the Spa Suites. The room package starts at $570 per night and the suite package from $1,655 per night, including the Kahala Suite Amenity Program. A minimum five-night stay is required and the promotion is valid through Dec. 20.
