Going Natural at Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort

In a place nicknamed the Garden Isle, it’s only fitting that a new restaurant and spa would work with products grown in their own backyard.

That’s precisely what’s happening at Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort. The east Kauai condominium recently introduced the Oasis on the Beach restaurant, showcasing local meat, fish and produce; and Spa by the Sea, boasting an organic product line made from island ingredients. Both amenities aim to complement the resort’s pristine environment.

Oasis on the Beach Restaurant
A seashell’s throw from the sand, this casual culinary retreat is the product of owner-operator Stefan Mandel and local chef Zack Sato. Organic ingredients, over 80 percent of which are grown on the island, are incorporated into the Hawaii-inspired dishes. Clients can order such menu items as fresh catch of the day glazed in miso butter and topped with crispy onion strings; and island grass-fed ribeye steak with a red wine sweet onion butter, over a taro mash and braised greens.

At the 5 p.m. happy hour, clients can watch the sunset from a great vantage point while sipping on refreshing ginger-lime infused mojitos or classic mai tais. Come dinner, they can savor sustainable fare from a stunning oceanview vantage point.

“We are extremely proud to add Oasis on the Beach restaurant to our property,” said Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort general manager Gregg Enright. “The fusion of island-grown ingredients and mouthwatering entrees creates a unique dining experience that guests will surely remember.”

Oasis on the Beach is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 2-9 p.m., with dinner from 5 p.m. Watch for lunch service to begin at a later date (808-822-9332).

Spa by the Sea
The full-service Spa by the Sea presents an extensive menu of facials, massages and other pampering indulgences that are unique to Hawaii while using only pure organic ingredients in its treatments.

Located in a 4,000-square-foot plantation-style environment, the spa offers a distinctive array of services ranging from a volcanic clay facial to Hawaiian-style lomi lomi massage. Body scrubs call on the likes of papaya, pineapple and sea salt. Clients can experience the legendary mana (power) of lava stones during the Hawaiian pohaku massage enhanced by kukui and coconut oils.

One of the spa’s specialty facials is a cooling and restorative body wrap using gel made of noni, a tropical fruit whose juice has long been considered to have healing powers.

Spa by the Sea is open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. daily.
