Closed since August in the aftermath of Hurricanes Emily and
Wilma, the 306-room Iberostar Cozumel has reopened with a host of
improvements and renovations making the property even better.
Housed in one- and two-story bungalow-style buildings surrounded
by tropical gardens, guestrooms have been totally refurbished. The
thatched roofs over all rooms are now reinforced with a double
level of protection against the elements.
In room amenities include a private shower, air conditioning,
ceiling fan, hairdryer, telephone, satellite TV, safety deposit box
and mini-bar. All feature a terrace or patio with hammocks for
relaxing on lazy afternoons. Landscaping is an ongoing effort and
the tropical foliage is returning throughout the property’s
carefully manicured grounds.
Iberostar Cozumel’s buffet restaurant has been expanded and now
features one of the most extensive buffet-style menus on the
island. The massive palapa roof over the buffet restaurant has also
been reinforced and air-conditioning has been added to sections of
the dining room.
In addition to the two existing specialty restaurants, the hotel
complex has opened the new Star Rock Cafe for casual dining until
9:30pm, after which it transforms into a sports bar and disco. The
spacious grounds also include a pool area with a terrace,
children’s pool, swim-up pool bar and a completely renovated
poolside restaurant.
One surprise benefit of last year’s storms is an expanded white
sand beach providing guests a wider area of powdery beachfront
where they can stretch out and soak up the sun.
Iberostar Cozumel provides scuba diving through Dressel Divers,
a CDC/PADI Gold Palm Resort Dive Center located on the beachfront
property. Here, guests can enroll in diving courses that range from
basic to instructor levels. The center also offers nitrox courses,
local dives and night dives for certified divers, cenote diving,
equipment rental, snorkel tours and courses.
