Legacy Weddings at Real Resorts Benefit Needy Children

Over the past year, more than 600 weddings were celebrated at the four Real Resorts in Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Future wedding participants at a Real Resorts property have another reason to rejoice — a new program called Imagine Now Real Resorts is offering couples and their guests the opportunity to turn their wedding into a legacy benefiting children in need. Real has partnered with the City of Joy Foundation (Fundacion Ciudad de la Alegria) and is inviting couples to create a legacy gift fund to help educate a child.

City of Joy is a 12-acre compound located just outside the city of Cancun that provides education, healthcare, legal support and a wide range of other services for needy families in collaboration with a network of charitable organizations.

One of City of Joy’s missions is the Mano Amiga School. The school, which operates kindergarten through high school, helps to educate more than 1,300 children each year whose families have an annual income of less than $450 per month. The school and City of Joy support individuals and families who live in Cancun and the state of Quintana Roo. These people often work in the hospitality industry but find themselves unable to support their family’s needs.

The cost of educating one student at Mano Amiga School is $25 per month. Couples donating to this cause will receive a commemorative plaque in their honor signed by student representatives and a letter twice a year from a sponsored student. If they choose, they can also arrange to visit the school, and will be commemorated at the school with an engraved blessing plaque noting their wedding date and names.

“The idea of a Legacy Wedding Gift Program was suggested to us by several of our guests who said they were not in need of traditional wedding gifts and wanted to do something to share their good fortune and provide a way for their guests to do something meaningful,” said Fernando Garcia, managing director of Real Resorts. “It brings us much joy to provide this wonderful opportunity.”

Agents wishing to arrange a legacy gift for their clients can work through the wedding planner at Real Resorts. In addition to the couple making the legacy donation, Real Resorts can set up a bridal registry for the couple so that their wedding guests can contribute to the legacy as well.
