Martinhal Family Hotels & Resorts Expands in Lisbon

Founded in 2005, Martinhal Family Hotels & Resorts is a luxury product designed with children in mind. Until recently, the family brand offered two hotels, located in Algarve, Portugal: Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort Hotel and Martinhal Quinta Family Resort Avenida. This year, Martinhal will double its portfolio, adding Martinhal Lisbon Cascais Family Resort Hotel and Martinhal Lisbon Chiado Family Suites in Lisbon.

Opened last month, Martinhal Lisbon Cascais Family Resort Hotel is located in the coastal Lisbon suburb of Cascais. The property features 68 guestrooms, four suites and 12 villas. Guestrooms offer a private balcony or terrace, as well as bunk beds dreamt up by Italian designer Lollypop. Guests staying in a villa are sure to feel more at home with two bedrooms, a full kitchen, a living room, a dining area and a private terrace. 

Martinhal Lisbon Cascais has a serious draw for families traveling with younger children: It boasts a clubhouse with more than 7,700 square feet of play space. Different areas within the club cater to different age groups; even those as young as 6 months old have access to the venue. The hotel also offers in-room babysitting and a playground. Three restaurants, three pools, a spa and two golf courses round out the hotel’s on-site features. Rates include breakfast and begin at approximately $210 per night, based on double occupancy (guests up to 2 years old are not charged). 

Set to debut before summer’s start, Martinhal Lisbon Chiado Family Suites will offer families an elegant and centrally located accommodation option in the heart of Lisbon. The property will be home to 37 apartments designed specifically for groups and ranging in size from studios to two-bedroom units. No matter the accommodation style selected, guests will have a full kitchen and a washer and dryer.

Like other Martinhal properties, Martinhal Lisbon Chiado will have a kids’ club for those as young as 6 months old all the way to travelers in their teens. There will also be a “pajama club” that will provide child-care services until midnight each evening, allowing parents a bit of late-night freedom. Nearby destinations of interest include UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Belem Tower and Mosteiro dos Jeronimos. City trams are also easily accessible from the property and can bring families to Lisbon’s many parks and gardens or the famous Oceanario de Lisboa, Europe’s second-largest aquarium.
