Located in the heart Waikiki, the Radisson Waikiki Prince Kuhio has
completed Phase I of a planned $15 million renovation. The program
coincides with the City and County of Honolulu’s $19 million Kuhio
Avenue beautification plan. Radisson is the first Waikiki business
to connect with that city and county project.
Renovations include major improvements to all of the hotel’s
public areas, including the lobby, lobby bar, pool, surrounding
deck and meeting and banquet facilities.
Specific common area upgrades have created a new grand entrance
with cascading waterfall and native plants; complete
floor-to-ceiling refurbishment of the lobby, concierge desk and
lobby bar; and improvements to restroom facilities.
Guests will also find wireless capabilities in these common
areas. The property’s 620 guestrooms were upgraded in 1998, and all
currently feature WayPort high-speed Internet access.
Gary Jutz, general manager, noted that the project indicates a
level of dedication by the hotel’s owners.
“The enhancements are representative of the Stanford Hotels
Corporation’s ‘fresh new approach,’ and reflect the company’s
overall commitment to the highest standards of hospitality for all
leisure and business guests,” said Jutz. “Everyone associated with
the Radisson Waikiki Prince Kuhio wants our guests to experience
the warmth and hospitality of the Islands throughout their entire
stay at our hotel.”
Jutz explained that the completed pool and sundeck areas reflect
a “Hawaii sense of place.” The Lobby Bar features a unique menu of
tropical drinks using only fresh ingredients and spirits new to the
Islands. This influence is also seen in the renovations to all
meeting and banquet facilities the 8,000-square-foot Grand
Ballroom, over 3,000 square feet of meeting space and all
pre-function areas.
Patsy Narimatsu, director of sales and marketing, is especially
pleased with the positive response from the group business
sector.
“The reaction and reception of the first groups to utilize the
ballroom and meeting rooms has been worth the wait,” she said. “A
meeting planner recently told us that we’re a ‘hidden jewel,’ and
wrote to us that our hotel is ‘great price, great property, great
location, great service!’ We’re proud that our renovations have
exceeded expectation.”
Phase II plans focus on a total transformation of the hotel’s
dining room. In partnership with CB5 Restaurant Group, the current
restaurant will undergo a theme change with new menu and interior
redesign. Completion is scheduled for the first quarter of
2005.
Headquartered in Greenwich, Conn., CB5 is a team of food and
beverage specialists who design and deliver fully functioning
restaurant operations.
