Renovated King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel Offers Introductory Rate

Jun 02, 2010

“A resort renaissance has happened at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel, and it’s time for rediscovery.”

That’s the word from Jak Hu, general manager of the 452-room resort that is located in the Kailua-Kona area of Hawaii’s Big Island. Hu is so pleased with the results of his property’s $35 million, two-year overhaul that he’s running an introductory rate for the rest of the year to encourage visits.

“Our repeat visitors are overwhelmed with the changes,” said Hu. “We have received tons of positive comments.”

Despite the recession, hotel officials knew that the time was right for the much-deserved facelift. On April 28, they celebrated the completion of the largest, most expensive, comprehensive renovation in the hotel’s 35 years of operation.

“A crown jewel in terms of hotels has been absent in the Kailua-Kona area for many years,” said Hu. “This renovation has not only filled that void, it has generated a lot of excitement from our guests and made an incredible impact on our employees.”

Upgraded Accommodations and Amenities
All accommodations, including five oceanfront one-bedroom suites, have been completely redone in a contemporary island-style vibe, with a decor that pays tribute to Kona’s past as well as its natural surroundings. Along with an upgraded look, each room now offers such amenities as Bath & Body Works products, an iron and ironing board, a flat-screen television, complimentary coffee and a coffee maker, free wireless Internet access and a mini refrigerator.

A brand new lobby and reception desk now welcome incoming guests. Other additions include an infinity-edged pool with bar, a lava-rock whirlpool and retail shops. The dining room has been equally transformed, and four meeting rooms have been fully refurbished to accommodate groups.

A Significant Setting
King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel sits adjacent to Ahuena Heiau, a National Historic Landmark and the final residence of Hawaii’s King Kamehameha. In tribute to its surroundings, the hotel has long displayed cherished artworks and artifacts in its lobby, including original portrait paintings of Hawaiian royalty and ancient war weapons. Now, those treasures are now being restored.

“Pacifica Hotel Company has a history of purchasing hotels, renovating them and bringing them back to life,” said Hu. “The owners view King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel as a wonderful asset with a great location of historical and cultural significance.”

Special Offer
In celebration of the completed renovation, the hotel is running a special introductory offer of $129 per night. Fully commissionable, the rate includes a complimentary one-category room upgrade and a welcome amenity. The offer is valid through Dec. 19.
