Rosewood Debuts New San Miguel de Allende Resort

Feb 28, 2011
Rosewood’s newest Mexico resort, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende, officially opened its doors to guests last month. The new resort is located within the heart of historic downtown San Miguel de Allende, just blocks away from El Jardin, the city’s main square.

Rosewood San Miguel de Allende has 67 guestrooms and suites with spacious living areas and Mexican-style furnishings. Parroquia Suites, the Deluxe Colonial Suite, the Tower Suite and the Rosewood Suite all offer great views of the city skyline.

“We’re thrilled that Rosewood’s newest Mexico resort is opening in the charming and historic town of San Miguel,” said Christian Tavelli, managing director of Rosewood San Miguel de Allende. “We are excited to bring a new level of luxury and hospitality to the destination.”

The resort has as numerous dining options. At the resort’s signature restaurant, 1826, the country’s heritage is celebrated with a mix of traditional and innovative Mexican dishes. Executive chef Carlos Hannon is a fan of the farm-to-table movement. The restaurant has established partnerships with nearby farms and food producers, including Via Organica, a local non-profit organization that works with the culinary team to supply fresh organic products.

The 1826 Tequila Bar has more than 120 labels of tequila and more than 20 mescals. The bar also has an outdoor terrace, and it’s expected that many diners will drift in for a pre-dinner cocktail. The resort’s “Tequilier,” or tequila sommelier, is on hand to help guests understand the process, tradition and folklore behind the large selection of tequilas and to help them make their selections.

The Luna Rooftop Tapas Bar serves authentic international tapas that can be enjoyed individually or family style. The tapas bar also has an al fresco setting with views of La Parroquia, the cathedral-like church in the center of town, as well as the city’s awe-inspiring sunsets. Agua is a casual poolside restaurant and bar offering drinks and light fare.

If your clients are looking for a unique and exclusive environment for private gatherings, the resort’s 2,000-bottle wine room, La Cava, is available by special arrangement. Here the chef and sommelier will personally attend to food and wine lovers with special tasting menus and fine wine pairings.

Sense, A Rosewood Spa, is located on the top floor of the resort’s main building. The 11,000-square-foot spa has eight treatment rooms, including a couples’ suite, and offers a full range of therapies, treatments, massages and facials.

Signature treatments include the San Miguel Signature Mole, complete with a spice and cocoa scrub, relaxing massage and herbal mist; and the Lavendar de Allende, an invigorating full-body exfoliation. Priori Skincare and Elemental Herbology are the exclusive product lines used in the Spa.

There’s also a fitness center with state-of-the-art facilities, personal trainers and yoga and Pilates instruction. Travel agents can make spa reservations in advance of arrival for their clients by contacting the Alejandro Ortiz, the spa manager ([email protected]).

Rosewood San Miguel de Allende features 5,140 square feet of indoor meeting room and pre-function space, a rooftop terrace, event lawn and outdoor amphitheater for lectures, musical performances, weddings and other social events. The resort specializes in weddings of up to 150 guests in a variety of settings, including the Rosewood Ballroom and the outdoor amphitheatre, El Teatro. Alternatively, the resort’s Jacaranda and Magnolia rooms are a good recommendation for couples seeking an intimate indoor setting. Customized gatherings — such as an intimate private dinner, al fresco reception on the rooftop terrace or garden cocktail party — are a specialty.

The resort is approximately a one-hour drive from Queretaro Airport (QRO) and Leon-Bajio International Airport (BJX), and a three-hour drive from Mexico City’s Benito Juarez International Airport (MEX).
