The 128 all-suite Rosewood Mayakoba reopened in September following a four-week, $1.6 million renovation led by Mexican architect and interior designer, Jose Manuel Martinez Marquez. The resort now offers 18 connecting suites, making it more desirable to families or larger groups. The suites sleep up to six guests each and are outfitted with paintings and artwork by local artisans to reflect the destination’s heritage.
Rosewood Mayakoba’s new on-property amenities include the Culture Concierge, serving as the go-to person for recommendations on things to do in the region, including off-the-beaten-path activities. The Cultural Concierge can arrange day-tours upon request, led by prominent archeologists and historians who act as guides through the region’s famed Maya archeological sites.
Overlooking the lagoon, Rosewood Mayakoba’s signature restaurant Casa del Lago has an outdoor terrace newly covered with a lattice clear glass roof, from which curtains can be dropped down during inclement weather to ensure diners always enjoy the al fresco setting. A granite and glass cold buffet has also been installed, completing a very streamlined look. The Mediterranean inspired menu at Casa del Lago now features such inventive dishes as a tiradito of tuna with avocado and mango, lobster risotto with traditional Maya corn and the restaurant’s signature paella. The Agave Azul Sushi Bar & Tequila Library has a new menu featuring shitake gyozas in a soy reduction, octopus sunomono, blue fin tuna and grouper ceviche and pad thai made with tamarind, the popular Mexican fruit.
The resort’s award-winning Sense, A Rosewood Spa provides a new and distinctive approach to healing by offering treatments utilizing traditional Maya techniques. Renovations doubled the size of the gym to more than 1,800 feet and added a palapa used for yoga and meditation classes while also containing a stretching area and TRX workout system. Newly added spa treatments include the Mayan Equinox Ritual, which is available as a single or couples treatment. The Mayan Equinox Ritual is built around a Temazcal session to balance body, mind and spirit. At the end of the ritual all guests will receive a pendant crafted in silver and monogrammed with a designated Mayan name.
