Whispering waterfalls. A sleek, twisting, 200 foot-long water
slide. A pool covering nearly one-third acre meandering from an
interior atrium to an ocean side exterior. These are just a
sampling of the fun features found at the new Sheraton Keauhou Bay
Resort & Spa on Hawaii’s Big Island.
Following a $70 million two-year renovation, the property is set
to celebrate its grand opening on April 8. “Our Grand Opening
signals an important day for Sheraton and Starwood Hotels and
Resorts in Hawaii, and for all of Hawaii’s Big Island,” stated
General Manager Charldon J. Thomas. “Sheraton Keauhou is now an
important part of the Big Island’s economic engine employing nearly
350 staff and management. We look forward to a long relationship
with our island community and express appreciation to all those who
have helped us achieve this milestone.”
Perched on an ancient lava flow on Keauhou Bay just footsteps
from the ocean’s edge, the resort is located just south of
Kailua-Kona town. It is the first hotel to open on Hawaii’s Big
Island in nearly ten years. Along with 521 guestrooms and suites
featuring Sheraton “Sweet Sleeper” beds, rooms also include a
lanai, coffee maker with 100 percent Kona Coffee and wireless
internet access (throughout the resort).
As for amenities, the Sheraton resort features one-of-a-kind
Manta Ray Experiences, the Hoola Spa with island-inspired
treatments, a beauty salon, fitness center, progressive luau held
each Monday and Thursday evening and more.
Overlooking Keauhou Bay, Crystal Blue Terrace is an ideal spot
for catching sunsets and watching graceful manta ray maneuver
through the water below. The Manta Ray Bar & Grill serves
snacks and meals poolside, while Kai restaurant is available for
breakfast and dinner. The 22-acre resort’s centerpiece, however, is
the Manta Ray Super Slide & Pool.
Opened since December 2004, The Keauhou Conference Center boasts
36,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor meeting, function and exhibit
space, and the largest ballroom on the Kona Coast. The resort can
easily accommodate groups from 20 to more than 1,000. A fully
equipped business center is also available for guest use.
