Sheraton Maui Named 2007 Hotel Of The Year

Apr 23, 2008

When it comes to the Sheraton brand, the saying “Maui No Ka Oi” (Maui is the best) definitely holds true to form. It should come as no surprise, then, that the Sheraton Maui Resort was selected as the 2007 winner of Starwood Hotels and Resorts’ Hotel of the Year award for its Sheraton brand.

Each year, Starwood recognizes one hotel from more than 200 Sheraton properties across North America with this prestigious award. This is the second time Sheraton Maui Resort has received the honor.

The winner of Hotel of the Year must excel in areas such as guest satisfaction, associate engagement and financial performance. The staff at Sheraton Maui Resort is dedicated to maintaining high standards in these areas while creating an inviting and comfortable environment for its guests. The resort consistently receives high guest satisfaction index scores among all Starwood brands, as well as the highest guest satisfaction scores with Starwood Hawaii.

Sheraton Maui Resort general manager Chip Bahouth recognized both the staff and guests for achieving the universal quality that makes Sheraton Maui Resort stand above the rest. “(The award is a result) of the inexhaustible dedication of our ohana (family) plus the support from loyal travel partners and visitors who continue to make Sheraton Maui Resort their preferred destination when visiting Kaanapali,” Bahouth said.

Sheraton Maui Resort has garnered a number of awards in recent years. In addition to its dual “Hotel of the Year” awards, the property has been consistently named in Travel + Leisure magazine’s Top 25 Hotels in Hawaii since 2005. The property also has won recognition in the meetings circuit with the Successful Meetings 2006 Pinnacle Award and Insurance Conference Planner Premium Circle Award.

Bahouth is certain this is not the end of the success for Sheraton Maui Resort. “As 2008 moves forward, I am confident our committed team will continue to achieve higher levels of excellence,” he said.

Families are now able to experience Sheraton Maui Resort’s award-winning excellence firsthand with an attractive package geared to all ages. The property offers a Family Fun plan that includes a special check-in and orientation with a member of the Fun Team, single room with guaranteed connecting rooms or a suite, $100 activity credit per room per stay, kids cup for unlimited beverages at the pool bar, free dining off of the kids menu for young guests 12 and under, age appropriate amenity for each child in the room upon arrival, and complimentary crib and/or rollaway bed in room upon arrival if needed. Low season rates are from $410 per night when rate code FML is requested.

The property is also getting exposure on the latest season of the hit Golf Channel show, The Big Break. Every Tuesday, 12 talented ladies compete on the adjacent Kaanapali Kai and Royal Kaanapali courses. The winner of the competition gets a "Big Break" by receiving an exemption to compete in the 2008 Navistar LPGA Classic.

The Sheraton Maui Resort encourages golfers to take part in the action themselves with a special Big Break Kaanapali Package available until Dec. 20, 2008. Starting at just $1,695, the five-night plan includes accommodations, four rounds of golf with a cart at Kaanapali Golf Resort (same day repeat round on availability), mid-sized rental car, free local phone calls, high-speed Internet access, two shuttle services between Lahaina and resorts, daily cultural and fitness activities, welcome amenity and lei greeting.

The 23-acre Sheraton Maui Resort is situated at historic Puu Kekaa (Black Rock) on Kaanapali Beach. Eighty-three percent of the hotel’s 510 rooms and suites face the ocean. One of six Sheraton hotels in Hawaii, the property is owned by Kyo-ya Hotels & Resorts LP and managed by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.
