If it’s Sunday, it must be time for the Uncorked Wine Tasting Series at Montage Kapalua Bay on Maui.
Sommelier Vanessa Lampson hosts the soirees, which were introduced in early 2015. During each event, attendees swirl and sample varietals from regions around the globe, from Sicily and the Iberian Peninsula to the Loire Valley and America’s West Coast.
Along with sips, guests savor light bites from the hotel’s Cane & Canoe restaurant menu, created specifically for each of the wines.
With a background in sustainable agriculture and development, Lampson is especially interested in how wine reflects cultural shifts and transformations.
“Wine provides a lens through which we can interpret the entire spectrum of human history and emotion,” Lampson said.
According to Pam Graves, director of leisure and travel industry sales at Montage Kapalua Bay, Uncorked has been well-received and will continue throughout 2016.
“The series is perfect for couples looking to wind down after a day of surfing, groups of friends curious about the world of wine or parents who need a little ‘date night’ away from the kids,” Graves said. “Whether you enjoy delving into the particulars of Italian viticultural regions or you are brand new to the world of wine, Vanessa will tailor the experience to your level of knowledge and interest.”
The cost to participate is $35 per person, which includes three tasting portions of food and drink. The event takes place every Sunday at 5 p.m. Reservations are required in advance.
