Sol Melia Hotels & Resorts announced that three new five-star hotels under its Gran Melia brand will open in 2010.

Of the new hotels, the Gran Melia Shanghai had its soft opening in December of last year but officially opened earlier this month. The 686-room property is located in the city’s central business district within walking distance from the famous Oriental Pearl Tower and the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium. The Gran Melia Shanghai boasts impressive views of the Huangpu River and the Puxi district as well.
Opening this summer, Gran Melia Crete will be located on the coast of Daios Cove, Crete, and will feature a complex of villas and swimming pools that are integrated with the surrounding environment and overlook the Aegean Sea. It will offer 300 rooms, a range of bars and restaurants, a spa and 13 meeting rooms.
The Gran Melia Rome, which will open in Rome this fall, will be located on the Tiber River in close proximity to the Saint Angelo Castle. The renovated 16th-century palazzo will feature 116 rooms, a convention center and signature luxury services and amenities offered by the Gran Melia brand.
