Waikikii’s Royal Hawaiian Center is celebrating the first major renovation of its retail complex since its opening in 1979. With its new look and feel, the center hopes to emerge as a world-class shopping center.
Part of the center’s revitalization included major enhancements to the structure. The center now has enhanced, pedestrian-friendly walkways throughout that create an open, relaxing atmosphere. Island-inspired furnishings and luxury-style landscaping outfit the center, too. Royal Hawaiian Center also possesses the largest open garden in the heart of Waikiki — The Royal Grove — which features 30,000-square-feet of lush, ethno-botanical gardens filled with coconut trees.
Shopping includes 110 flagship stores like Bebe, Bvlgari, or Kate Spade and dining options include P.F. Changs, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse or specialty sidewalk cafes.
In mid-July, the center is launching a state-of-the-art performance theater with 135-foot wide screens and high-wire trapezes. This theater will host a new acrobatic and musical production called Waikiki Nei; after hours, Waikiki Nei will convert into a nightclub and ultra-lounge.
The center also provides tourists an opportunity to get connected to Hawaiian culture and history. Visitors can engage in the ongoing cultural enrichment programs that offer hands-on experience in traditions Hawaiian traditions such as hula, lei-making, and lomi lomi massage.
