First opened to guests in April 2025, the 136-room Hampton Inn & Suites Maui North Shore may well occupy the most stunning location in the brand’s extensive portfolio of more than 3,100 properties worldwide.

“We’re one of a kind,” said Serkan Hizliok, general manager for Hampton Inn & Suites Maui North Shore. “It's a perfect location. Half the property looks at Kahului Bay, and the other half looks at Haleakala, offering beautiful sunrise views.”

Just a 10-minute drive from the Kahului Airport, the newbuild offers guests more than just a place to crash after arriving to Maui on a late flight; the hotel also features a sandy beach, a full-service bar, an oceanfront pool, daily breakfasts and terrific views of the West Maui mountains and coastline — the property is full of surprises.

“In addition to our complimentary breakfast, our bar opens at 11 a.m., and we serve all the way until 10 p.m., and we’ve got very good pupus [appetizers] and very good cocktails,” Hizliok said. “We also have beach equipment available for guests to enjoy, including beach chairs and umbrellas.”

Last fall, I started each morning of my stay with a complimentary cup of the property’s coffee, seated in the sand in front of Kahului Harbor, enjoying the rhythmic sound of the gentle waves and the growing warmth of the Maui sunshine.

The nearby pier for the busy working harbor was regularly occupied with container or cruise ships during my visit, and in the afternoon when the wind picked up, fast-moving kite surfers freckled the bay.

“I really like our daily sunset ceremony,” Hizliok told me. “We blow the conch [shell] to start it and then explain to guests about the history of our location. We also explain some of the designs used throughout the hotel that were inspired by Hawaiian art. Our ceremony wraps up with an oli, or chant in Hawaiian, and we offer flowers to the beach and then blow the conch again to finish. It’s very powerful.”

Wide-Ranging Appeal

According to Hizliok, the property has welcomed a diverse crowd since its opening last year, including vacationing families and couples, along with local Hawaii residents, corporate travelers and a sizable chunk of Hilton Honors members.

He says it’s common to see vacationing guests spend either a night or two at the start of their trip at the hotel or a night or two at the tail end of their visit.

“For example, if they want to visit the east side of the island and Hana, but they are staying on the south side or on the west side,” Hizliok said. “We sit in such a convenient location if people want to explore the whole island, as we are very central and easy to get to from the west side, east side or upcountry.”

My oceanview guestroom was certainly very comfortable, featuring a contemporary feel, a king-size bed, a microwave and a refrigerator. The pullout sofa provides options for a small family, but the product would probably be most comfortable for a couple.

Room rates include a $25 per night resort fee, but if clients want to park a car, they’ll need to pay an additional $25 per night.

Hizliok adds that the property has been busier than he expected during the festive season.

“Compared to last year, there was much healthier demand all around the island,” he told me over the phone late last month. “The last four days, we’ve been running 100%.”

The general manager was also quick to note that nearly 2.5 years after the devastating Lahaina wildfires, Maui is eager to again welcome vacationers.

“We are ready, and the island is more beautiful than ever,” Hizliok said. “People are anxious to serve.”
