8 Especially Romantic Places for Lovers in Mexico

Feb 06, 2017

As Valentine’s Day quickly approaches, many couples are starting to think of romantic places to spend time together — either on that special day, or perhaps as a surprise trip for a later date. With that in mind, we’ve assembled a list of eight especially romantic places in Mexico for couples to enjoy a kiss.

In the Steps of Celebrities in Puerto Vallarta
Decades ago, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton felt so much passion in Puerto Vallarta during the filming of the movie “The Night of the Iguana” that they bought two homes there. Today, the twosome’s former romantic getaway is Casa Kimberly, a nine-room boutique hotel. Couples can toast to their own love at open-air The Iguana Restaurant & Tequila Bar and spend the night in the sumptuous Elizabeth Taylor Suite, where the terrace provides a romantic view of the city.

During a Couples Massage on the Beach
Excellence Riviera Cancun offers couples massages at its Miile Spa, including treatments by the sea accompanied by champagne and sweets. The signature couples massage blends shiatsu, stretching, hot poultice and aromatherapy. Sandos Cancun Luxury Resort, meanwhile, offers a romantic moonlight massage for couples, an after-dark treatment on the beach that can serve as the perfect end to a day together.

While Savoring a Gourmet Tasting Menu
Le Blanc Spa Resort, one of the most upscale, adults-only, all-inclusive properties in Cancun, is home to Lumiere, an elegant venue that serves French-fusion cuisine. Its seven-course tasting menu features a series of small dishes designed to awaken the taste buds.

Amid Unspoiled Nature on Holbox Island
Located about two hours by boat from Cancun, Holbox is a pristine island where cars aren’t allowed. This idyllic setting provides lots of opportunities for couples to explore rainforests, unspoiled beaches, lagoons and cenotes — and multiple postcard-perfect spots in which to steal a kiss. At Hotel Villas Flamingos, a 29-room property on Holbox, couples can savor fresh seafood in the palapa-style El Mangle restaurant, followed by a toast at Bar Los Pedales, next to the pool and beach.

On a Carriage Ride at a Historic Hacienda
Set partly in a 16th-century hacienda in Queretaro, Hacienda Jurica — a Las Brisas hotel — has plenty of elegant spaces with lovely antiques, as well as vintage, horse-drawn carriages that are perfect for romantic rides. The property offers a six-night romance package for $1,050, which includes a welcome cocktail, continental breakfast, two dinners with a bottle of domestic wine and rose petals on the bed.

While Dancing the Night Away in Los Cabos
ME Cabo, which reopened in 2016 after a $16 million renovation, is home to the new Blue Marlin Ibiza Los Cabos Beach Club, a trendy, open-air venue with live music and DJs — a prime place to sip a cocktail, enjoy some lively tunes and catch a seaside smooch.

After a Day of Shopping in Mexico City
Mexico’s capital is a hot spot for arts, culture, romance and shopping. Prendes, a renowned traditional Mexican restaurant, recently reopened its doors at El Palacio de Hierro, which is billed as Latin America’s largest luxury department store. Set in the upscale Polanco neighborhood, the venue is known as a popular date spot, with attentive service and an extensive menu of Mexican fare that once attracted the likes of artist Frida Kahlo, revolutionary Che Guevara and entertainment icon Walt Disney. After a morning of shopping for that perfect gift, the outdoor seating area is an ideal place to refuel and enjoy time together.

During an “Aphrodisiac Shower” on the Riviera Maya
Viceroy Riviera Maya, an adults-only luxury hotel on the beach, offers an “aphrodisiac shower experience,” for which a butler sets a ring of candles around the outdoor shower, accompanied by an array of stimulating soaps such as sweet chocolate, deep red wine and “uplifting and engaging” honey and lavender. Rose petals dot the shower floor, and aromatherapy diffusers as well as massage oil help to make it a multisensory experience.
