American Airlines has announced that it will launch five flights per week between Dallas/Fort Worth and Merida, the largest city on the Yucatan Peninsula, on March 3, 2016, after regulatory approvals. This will make the U.S. airline one of the sole carriers to offer nonstop service between the two cities. Bookings opened in October.
An Airbus A319 will depart Dallas/Fort Worth at 12:30 p.m. and arrive in Merida at 2:50 p.m., while flights from Merida will depart at 3:50 p.m. and arrive in Dallas/Fort Worth at 6:20 p.m.
This new route increases American Airlines’ tally to 21 destinations in Mexico and is a part of its $2 billion planned investment in improvements.
“The addition of Merida gives our customers 21 destinations in Mexico, and we’ll now operate nearly 120 daily flights between our two countries,” said Art Torno, senior vice president of international and cargo for American Airlines. “American was the first international airline to fly to Mexico in 1942, and we’ve been one of the leading international carriers in the country ever since.”
