Two celebrities are in Mexico City on the same day. It's a sprawling area, so are they likely to ever tread the same ground?
Well, the day I was at Museo Nacional de Antropologia (National Museum of Anthropology), both musician Robert Plant and "Saturday Night Live" head writer/cast member Colin Jost were both spotted poking around the museum's 23 permanent exhibit halls. There stood Jost and I, both totally lost in the Aztec "Piedra del Sol" ("Stone of the Sun"), a 12-foot slab of intricately carved basalt that dates back to the 1400s.
The museum is Mexico City's most-visited, which comes as no surprise. It's hard to imagine a better way to learn about ancient Mesoamerican history than by viewing the museum's one-of-a-kind collection of artifacts, including Teotihuacan masks and giant carved heads from the Olmec people.
But don't just look inside the salons __ the architecture of the building, designed by Pedro Ramirez Vazquez, is a work of art as well. Unless clients are well-versed in Mexico's past, be sure to hire an English-speaking guide, since English signs are few and there is a lot of history to uncover.
