Although entrepreneur David Amar first fell in love with Mexico some 30 years ago, it was just two years ago that he approached tourism officials in Cancun and the Riviera Maya to tell them that he thought there was a need for an event targeting affluent lovers of food and wine.
And thus the Cancun-Riviera Maya Wine & Food Festival was born.
The first show, held in March, included 30-plus gastronomic events, featuring an impressive lineup of 30 of the best chefs in the world and attracting 3,000 visitors from around the world.
This year’s festival promises to be even better.
With the theme “Europe Meets the Americas,” the festival features Massimo Bottura, considered one of the top five chefs in the world. Bottura will appear at numerous events, including “Taste the New World: Star Chefs of the Americas Dinner,” which features 30 star chefs from North and South America, and their signature dishes.
The impressive roster of events also includes a dine-around at top restaurants in the Cancun Riviera Maya region, as well as a tasting village, where 20 area restaurants will offer samples of their best dishes. Wine also plays a significant role in the event, which includes tastings and educational seminars such as Great Red Wines From Around the World.
The festival is scheduled for March 14-17 at various locations throughout the region. Event admissions range from $50 to $350, and numerous area hotels are offering discounted hotel packages.
