As I stepped from the outdoor heat into the atrium at Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun, the setting so soothed my senses that I let out a sigh of relief. The lobby’s cool, polished marble interiors are complemented by stylish seating and accented all around by bronze artwork, live greenery and candle-lit floral arrangements. I was greeted by gracious staff and — since I was booked for the Unlimited Grand Club Experience — I was escorted to a private check-in at the VIP Penthouse Lounge, which serves light bites and refreshments throughout the day to Grand Club guests.
This is just one of the perks of the new, all-inclusive Grand Club Experience option at the resort. Guests who upgrade to this class of accommodation also receive limitless dining and premium drinks anywhere in the resort; access to a private section of beach, poolside and beachside butler service; and other lavish amenities and exclusive activities.
But even the standard experience at Coral Beach feels ultra-luxurious. My Master Suite featured a sunken living room, a desk area, a dining space and a private terrace. The bathroom featured a standalone whirlpool tub, a separate shower, a wraparound double vanity, a dressing area and a huge wardrobe.
Like each of the resort’s 602 all-suite accommodations, my room provided stunning views of the Caribbean Sea. And, down below, saltwater swimming pools mirror the blues of the adjacent ocean and meander through the courtyard beneath swaying palm trees.
The star of the hotel’s on-site gastronomic scene is the AAA Five Diamond Le Basilic, where chef Henri Charvet has created a French-Mediterranean menu that incorporates elements of traditional Yucatecan cuisine and uses the freshest local ingredients. In addition, the elegant dining room presents an avant-garde aesthetic that’s enhanced by spotlit paintings and live piano music.
Across the way, La Joya serves innovative, modern Mexican cuisine in a lively, upscale atmosphere, complete with a premium bar and tequila tasting room. The ambiance owes its charm to design elements of a traditional hacienda, including faux-tree boughs from which twinkling lanterns dance overhead. Also on offer here is “The Table,” an eight-course immersive culinary journey that’s served upon a high-tech, 3-D digital-display surface. Guests are guided through the colorful history of the Yucatan while artistic gourmet dishes arrive to complement each highlighted era.
