Islander Expands

Dec 04, 2007

Islander Collection, a hospitality management group, has recently added five villas previously owned by Club Med in Mexico to their portfolio.

All of the villas are in close proximity of World Heritage sites in Mexico which include Chichen Itza, Coba, Cholula, Teotihuacan and Uxmal.

“These beautiful archaeological villas compliment our existing portfolio of scenic resort properties in Mexico,” said Carlos del Pino, managing director of Islander Collection. “We are excited to enhance these villas with our own signature sophisticated sense of style and comfort during the coming year.”

Arqueologica Villa Chichen Itza is a hacienda-style inn that rests near the ancient Mayan temple city at Chichen Itza. The ruins have recently been named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The gigantic Kukulkan pyramid, the Temple of Chac Mool, the Hall of the Thousand Pillars and the Playing Field of the Prisoners exemplify not only the advanced architectural knowledge of the Mayan civilization, but its power, too.

Additionally, Islander Collection has acquired Arqueologica Villas Coba in Riviera Maya. This 42-room villa resides only a few miles away from the Mayan ruins of Coba. Villas Arqueologica Cholula is another newly added villa of Islander Collection. It is minutes from Cholula, which boasts the largest, by volume, man-made pyramid in the world.

Other properties recently acquired by the Island Collection are the Villa Arqueologica Teotihuacan, near the ruin of Teotihuacan; and Villa Arqueologica Uxmal, a hotel about 600 feet from the remains of Uxmal.

Each archaeological villa features 40-45 rooms, including family suites, along with full-service restaurants, tennis courts and swimming pools.

Janyck Daudet, CEO Club Med South America said, “Club Med continues with its core mission to be the best all-inclusive vacation for upscale families. We worked closely with Fonatur (Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo) in Mexico to transfer these locations to a local operator who will preserve, protect and cherish these locations as Club Med has for over 20 years.”

Islander Collection has also bought the former Reef Club Cozumel. In a partnership with Wyndham Hotel Group, it was reopened in August as Wyndham Cozumel Resort & Spa.

Islander Collection will also be introducing the brand-new Aura Cozumel, a Wyndham Grand Bay property and member of the Preferred Boutique group, a prestigious collection of worldwide luxury boutique hotels. Scheduled to open in January, the Aura Cozumel will offer guests a unique all-inclusive boutique setting, providing endless luxury with stylish and lavish accommodations as well as superior amenities and services.

Club Med guests holding bookings at one of the archaeological villas acquired by Islander Collection can transfer that booking to another Club Med village or keep their reservation, which will be automatically transferred to Islander Collection.

Islander Collection also has properties in the Caribbean and South and Central America.
