Last month, the Riviera Nayarit town of Sayulita became one of Mexico’s newest Pueblos Magicos. This special designation is given to towns that provide visitors a “magical” experience with their natural landscapes, history and rich culture.
The award was granted by Enrique de la Madrid, head of Mexico Tourism Board, and received by Catalina Ruiz, head of Nayarit Tourism.
Among other things, the designation means the town will receive additional tourism promotion support, as well as capital for development. In fact, thanks to the town’s newest title, a five-year project has begun to increase tourism to the area. First up is the creation of the Pro Pueblo Magico Sayulita executive committee, which will combine elements from the Nayarit and Banderas Bay tourism centers to create a plan that integrates input from civil associations and citizens.
