Mazatlan is scheduled to host the 10th Annual Gran Fiesta Amigos de
Mazatlan event Nov. 4-7 honoring key travel partners, including
wholesalers, tour operators, airlines and incentive companies.
Hosted by Mazatlan tourism officials, the Mazatlan Hotel
Association and the state of Sinaloa, Fiesta Amigos will include a
welcome dinner at the Hotel Playa Mazatlan; a celebration at the El
Cid Castilla Resort; a brunch, beach party and award ceremony at
the Pueblo Bonito Hotel at Emerald Bay in Nuevo Mazatlan; and a
farewell dinner at the Hotel Inn at Mazatlan. Participants may also
enter the annual Fiesta Amigos Golf Tournament, which will be held
at the El Cid Golf & Country Club.
“In our tenth year, Fiesta Amigos provides Mazatlan the
opportunity to show our gratitude to our industry friends who are
so supportive of Mazatlan as a travel destination,” said Carlos
Berdegue, vice president of the Mazatlan Hotel Association and
tourism board. “Mazatlan is extremely thankful for these
individuals who continuously strive to promote the unique
destination of Mazatlan to travelers worldwide.”
Golden Deer Awards will be presented to airlines and tour
operators that add flights to the destination. Among this year’s
winners are Mexicana, which added flights from Mexico City and
Monterrey; America West Airlines, for adding daily service from Los
Angeles to Mazatlan; The Mark Travel Corp., for adding air service
from Minneapolis and Salt Lake City; and Apple Vacations for being
the top producer for Mazatlan hotels.
Known as “the land of the deer,” Mazatlan is Mexico’s second
largest coastal city and an international sports-fishing
destination. The city is divided into two main areas: “Old
Mazatlan” includes the downtown and harbor areas with historical
attractions, and the “Golden Zone” or Zona Dorada, which runs seven
miles along a coastal road.
Attractions include the historic Angela Peralta Theater, the
Archeological Museum, Republic Plaza, the Ocean Museum, the Botanic
Garden, San Jose Chapel, and the world’s second-tallest lighthouse.
The city can be toured by “pulmonias,” a four-person, open-air
vehicle that has become the symbol of Mazatlan.
