Costa Careyes, on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, hopes to draw more
visitors in the new year with a variety of activities and increased
accessibility.
Throughout the winter, one of Careyes’ most unique activity
options is polo, with tournaments scheduled now through April. With
over 60 horses available for guests and two polo fields, the
Careyes Polo Club offers lessons for beginners or advanced players,
as well as riding experiences through the area’s tropical
landscape. Players and spectators alike can sample Italian cuisine
and Argentinean meat and a selection of tequilas at the Polo Club
restaurant, Rancho Don Andres.
El Careyes Beach Resort offers 48 guestrooms and suites, as well
as three oceanfront casitas. Activities at the resort include
kayaking, snorkeling, horseback riding, deep-sea fishing and
tennis. Guests at the El Careyes Beach Resort and the private
rentals of Careyes have access to El Tamarindo’s championship-style
18-hole golf course, 45 minutes from El Careyes.
Careyes is also maintaining its commitment to ecological
preservation, and guests can currently spot whales with a
whale-watching program that runs December through March. The sea
turtle program is also popular. Each summer from July through
November, sea turtle eggs are collected at a nursery to be released
back into their natural habitat, and guests can participate in the
program and watch the early morning releases.
And, on Feb. 8, guests can take part in the annual Chinese New
Year celebration in Careyes.
Getting to Careyes is also about to get a little easier.
Currnetly, regular non-stop flights are available into both Puerto
Vallarta and Manzanillo. A 4,000-foot grass landing strip is
located 10 minutes from Careyes for small private aircraft.
Additionally, plans are underway for a new airport to be built this
year for both private and small commercial flights.
