Considering San Miguel de Allende’s amplified press coverage from consumer publications such as Conde Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure (which ranked the destination as one of the world’s top 10 cities in 2016), it’s no surprise that travel-related companies and suppliers have been creating even more reasons to visit. Here are a few of the latest developments in San Miguel de Allende.

LODGING UPDATES

L’Otel
This past fall, L’Otel opened its doors. The luxurious new boutique hotel is located on the top floor of Doce-18 Concept House, which is a new venue set in a repurposed 18th-century home that houses independent fashion, design, art and decor retailers as well as dining venues. Room categories at L’Otel range from Traditional King, which features a balcony, a 50-inch television and indoor and outdoor showers, to the Owner’s Suite, which has a fireplace, an office space, living and dining areas, a rooftop garden with a small whirlpool tub and a private courtyard with a bathtub. The hotel features a rooftop swimming pool and plans to add a spa in the coming months.

Casa 1810 Hotel Boutique
Opened about a year ago, Casa 1810 Hotel Boutique is a 15-room hotel set in a beautifully restored historic building downtown. The property’s top-of-the-line accommodations include the Luxury Suite, which offers a view of the legendary Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel church, and the Romantic Suite, which has a sunken bathtub and a view of the Templo de San Francisco church. Casa 1810 is especially focused on the destination wedding market, with on-site venues that include a terrace, a courtyard, a wine cellar, a pool area and a scenic rooftop area.

Hotel Boutique Casa Diamante
Hotel Boutique Casa Diamante, in the nearby town of Mineral de Pozos, has introduced a new artisanal beer called Vopper. It also has a beer spa, where guests can soak in an actual barrel of the frothy beverage to absorb the medicinal qualities of hops, yeast and malt.

Rosewood San Miguel de Allende
This year, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende added two tennis courts as well as the open-air Los Pirules Artisan Kitchen & Garden Bar, complete with a fire pit and an herb garden. Here, guests can partake in artisanal cooking classes and communal private meals.

ENTERTAINMENT ENHANCEMENTS

Teatro Angela Peralta, a downtown theater that opened in 1873, is closed for major renovations that will restore much of its original elegance. The historic venue is set to reopen for performances sometime in 2017.

San Miguel de Allende welcomed a new annual event in November 2016 with the debut of Luxury Fashion Days. This year’s event, which took place in March, brought together designers and big names from around the country, benefiting organizations that help people with disabilities.

Additional events slated for 2017 include the Guanajuato International Film Festival and Sabores San Miguel food festival, both of which take place this month, and Festival Internacional de Musica, which will take place in August.
