Alyeska Resort in Girdwood has opened a new lift for the 2013-2014 ski season. General manager Mark Weakland said that the new Glacier Bowl Express is a high-speed quad that complements the existing tram and another high-speed lift known as Ted’s Express. The resort also tapped into mountain bike tourism with the addition of the Alyeska Bike Park.
“We are preparing for the sport to continue to skyrocket in 2014,” Weakland said. “At the Daylodge Bike Hub, we’re selling and renting more top-of-the-line, downhill mountain bikes. Riders attach a Go-Pro camera to their helmets, hook the bike onto the lift or load into the tram for a quick ride to the top before choosing one of several downhill trails.”
Alyeska can rent all riding and safety equipment and offers two-hour lessons with certified instructors who focus on proper stance, body control and motion, as well as downhill riding techniques specific to the resort’s trails.
