Hawaii’s Food and Wine Classic

Jun 03, 2009
The Kahala Hotel and Resort is poised to host one of the world’s most influential icons of American food, Chef Emeril Lagasse, at the Kahala Food and Wine Classic on June 12-13. Clients can book room and event packages timed with the festivities, which take place at the Honolulu luxury resort.

Lagasse is the chef/proprietor of 10 restaurants, including three in New Orleans (Emeril’s, NOLA and Emeril’s Delmonico). He will open his 11th restaurant, Emeril’s Chop House, on May 22 at the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem in Pennsylvania. He is also a national TV personality and best-selling author of 13 cookbooks. Lagasse’s corporate office in New Orleans is home base for his restaurant operations, a culinary test kitchen and a boutique store for his signature products.

The Kahala Food and Wine Classic promises to deliver the sights, sounds and flavors of New Orleans at the following events.

June 12: The Essence of Emeril Opening Night Dinner, $250 per person. Lagasse presents the essential flavors of New Orleans Creole and Cajun cuisine combined with red wines from Schrader Cellars. Cigars are available afterward.

June 13: Emeril Cooking Demonstration, $100 per person. This live cooking demonstration features a showcase of New Orleans delights including beignets and chicory coffee. Lagasse answers questions from the audience following the demonstration.

June 13: Wineology Wine Tasting, $50 per person. Clients taste wine with Napa Valley vintner Fred Schrader and winemaker Thomas Brown of Schrader Cellars. The tasting features a selection of Sonoma Coast pinots from Schrader Cellars and Rivers- Marie Winery paired with tapas.

June 13: The Art of Blending and Tasting Cigar Session, $30 per person. Davidoff’s Michael Herklots dissects the delicate blending of the finest tobaccos. Cigars are included.

June 13: “New” New Orleans Cuisine Dinner, $250 per person. Clients can celebrate the elegance and splendor of “New” New Orleans cuisine prepared by Lagasse. Paired with the award-winning wines of Schrader Cellars, the food, wine and celeb-appeal of the chef offer a truly unique Big Easy experience.

June 13: Mississippi Smokin’, $45 per person. Into the wee hours, guests can savor Davidoff Cigars with Herklots and a glass of liquid gold.

The Kahala’s Food and Wine Classic Weekend package provides one dinner for two at either the Essence of Emeril or the “New” New Orleans dinner; daily buffet breakfast for two; and a Kahala 45th anniversary beach towel. Nightly package rates start at $850, with the fourth night free.
