Only in San Francisco

May 26, 2009

San Francisco enthusiasts can now follow the city’s latest deals, insider tips and more on Twitter and Facebook.

More than 40,000 people are following the San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (SFCVB) daily “OnlyinSF” posts on the popular social-media sites. As a result, dozens of the city’s most fervent fans have participated in the Bureau’s “Escape to the City” promotion, the goal of which is to encourage Northern California residents to take advantage of this world-class destination by staying local and taking a vacation in San Francisco this summer.

On selected dates, the SFCVB invites local Twitter followers to be videotaped sharing their favorite things to do and see in San Francisco. The date, time, and location of each filming location are posted via Twitter/OnlyinSF and on Facebook the day prior to each taping.

The videos are then posted on the SFCVB’s new micro-site, www.onlyinsanfrancisco.com/escape.

Each week, the first 30 participants receive an “Only in San Francisco” inspired prize and are entered into a drawing to win an “Escape to the City” grand-prize package.

“Twitter is a natural tool for sharing the fun and excitement that is ‘Only in San Francisco,’” said Joe D’Alessandro, president and CEO of the SFCVB.

The daily OnlyinSF updates focus on deals, insider tips, art and culture, green, neighborhoods, landmarks and food. For example, followers can find out about budget eats, culinary events, happy hours and giveaways, exhibits, local music, green tips, shopping guides, landmark trivia and hotel packages through onlyinsanfrancisco.com.

Follow “OnlyinSF” on Twitter at http://twitter.com/onlyinsf. Only in San Francisco is also on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/San-Francisco/55139614218.

More details about the “Escape to the City” promotion are available at www.onlyinsanfrancisco.com/escape/, which provides visitors with suggested itineraries to plan their own perfect “escape,” value-added incentives and exclusive offers from American Express.
