Riding Hawaii's Travel Rollercoaster

Aug 12, 2008

Condominium Connection, one of Hawaii’s top producers of condominium and hotel travel packages, is reporting that the precipitous plunge in Hawaii business this spring and summer will begin showing an upward surge this fall.

In its quarterly Condominium Connection Future Booking Trends (CCFBT) report, based on actual hotel and condominium package sales throughout the Islands, the company notes that the average daily rate (ADR) is falling for many properties while added values are on the rise.

According to Joseph Fienberg, Condominium Connection president, “It has been  like a rollercoaster through mid-year.  It’s no mystery that high fuel costs have heavily and negatively impacted Hawaii travel with some property occupancy rates dropping as much as 40 percent in the second quarter alone.  The good news is that consumers are enjoying some of the best deals in years such as reduced rates, free nights, free meals, free activities, and even free gas.”

Fienberg predicts that the third quarter will see the beginning of a positive turnaround in Hawaii travel.  “Based on our actual bookings, we see a rebound that will start trending upward this fall and continue throughout the remainder of the year.  By the beginning of 2009, the market should be back on an even keel and close to levels seen early in 2008. As long as fuel costs moderate, we feel there is some normalcy on the horizon.”

This fall, Fienberg sees exceptional values available such as six nights at the Wyland Waikiki Hotel at $757, double occupancy, with every third night free, upgrade from standard room to city view, and daily continental breakfast for two.  On Maui, the Outrigger Royal Kahana is priced at $1,092, double, for six nights in an ocean view, studio unit with a $50 grocery certificate.  Kauai’s ResortQuest Kauai Beach is at $883, double, for six nights, including an upgrade from garden to ocean view accommodations and a $50 food and beverage credit.  The Big Island of Hawaii offers the Castle Kona Bali Kai at $796, double, for six nights in a one-bedroom, mountain view suite.

Rates include all taxes and are subject to availability.

Condominium Connection, established in 1978, offers more than 200 condominiums and hotels throughout Hawaii and Mexico at 13% commission to travel agents.  The company specializes in customized travel packages and personalized service.  For more information and reservations, call 1-800-423-2976 (US), 1-800-821-3901 (Canada), fax 1-818-879-5660 or visit www.condoconnection.com online.
