The word “sandwich” takes on a whole new meaning with Park Hyatt Aviara Resort’s new Surfing with the Chef Program. Launched this May and now offered year-round, the experiential program takes guests from the kitchen to the beach with Pierre Albaladejo, executive chef (and unofficial surfing coach) of the Carlsbad, Calif.-based property.
Clients begin the day helping the chef prepare breakfast in the hotel’s kitchen, then join him on one of the area’s local beaches for a surf lesson. After they’ve worked up an appetite from their salty hang-10 session, guests will chow down on a “toes in the sand” meal prepared by Albaladejo. Once the program finishes, clients receive a personalized longboard that will be shipped home to them after their hotel stay.
“As a French born and trained chef from a surfing town in the southwest of France, I naturally love the ocean,” Albaladejo said. “Having held positions in St. Thomas, Pebble Beach, Hawaii and now Southern California, surfing is in my blood, and this exciting new offering allows me to share my passions in and out of the kitchen, while offering guests an out-of-the-box and unforgettable travel experience.”
