World’s Largest Helium Balloon Takes Flight in Las Vegas

Nov 03, 2009

World's Largest Helium Balloon // (c) 2009

 Cloud Nine Entertainment launches a
land-tethered balloon from the Las Vegas strip

The skyline of the Las Vegas Strip now features the addition of Cloud Nine, the largest helium-filled, land-tethered balloon in the world. With its inaugural launch from a site on Las Vegas Boulevard across from Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino on Oct. 8, the Cloud Nine balloon is now visible from miles away, offering breathtaking views of the city, day and night.

The European-style balloon was originally commissioned for “The America’s Cup” yacht race in Valencia, Spain and the project was inspired by other successful balloons in Paris, Hong Kong and Dubai.

“The Cloud Nine balloon offers passengers extraordinary open-air views of the breathtaking Las Vegas Strip,” said Kevin Michaels, President and CEO of Cloud Nine Entertainment. “Plus, with tickets in the $20 range, this once-in-a-lifetime experience is available at a price that both Las Vegas residents and visitors alike can afford.”

Cloud Nine will safely elevate up to 30 passengers at a time in a customized gondola that will offer its high-flying guests spectacular 360 degree views of Las Vegas from nearly 500 feet in the air. The “lucky” 7-story-wide by 11-story-high balloon is also uniquely illuminated from within, making it visible from miles away.

In addition to standard ten-minute flights, Cloud Nine also offers innovative wedding, anniversary, engagement, and bachelor and bachelorette parties, as well as a variety of corporate and special event packages.

Tickets are priced at $17.50 in the daytime and $22.50 at night for children 12 and under, and $22.50 in the daytime and $27.50 at night for adults. One child per adult under five is complimentary. Pricing does not include tax and service charges. Because of FAA restrictions, all balloon flights are subject to cancellation pending weather conditions.
