On Sept. 29, some 265 travel professionals joined the Center for Responsible Travel (CREST) for a webinar titled “Lessons From COVID-19 on Tourism in a Changing Climate.” The 90-minute event was introduced by Gregory Miller, executive director for CREST.

Speakers on the panel included moderator Denaye Hinds, owner and managing director of JustaTAAD; Daniel Scott, executive director of Interdisciplinary Centre on Climate Change at University of Waterloo; Erin Francis-Cummings, president and CEO of Destination Analysts; and Ewald Biemans, owner and CEO of Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort in Aruba.

The speakers agreed that a unified vision among industry leadership is needed for an impactful shift toward lasting sustainability. Biemans said that the pandemic has ushered in a new environmentally minded era for the hospitality industry, and Francis-Cummings said she is hopeful that millennial and Generation Z travelers will also help lead the way.
